EASTER
CELEBRATIONS
On Good Friday we had our yearly Easter
Party for street children. This time I let our teenagers
lead the three games, and they did a great job.
The kids had to get apples out of buckets of water with their mouths
only, had to balance eggs on a spoon held by their mouths, and played
musical chairs. The happy winner received the grand prize
of a soccer ball.
Then
after a time of exuberant Bambara praise - singing
and dancing - it was Paul for the first time who explained the whole
gospel to the boys. He had a Q & A time
afterwards, and they were eager to respond thanks to the candy
for right answers. Then it got more serious as an opportunity was
extended to pray and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior,
and many did.
Then
the kids had a chance to watch the gospel as told
by Matthew, and watch it in their mother tongue Bambara. They were
glued to the screen - though a few fell asleep. Once the movie was
over, it was time for a wonderful lunch. And I
got everything ready in my house for the shoe give-away.
One
by one the boys came to my house to receive a pair of shoes
and a drink. And they were very thankful for it! The party
was over, but many came back to our weekly movie night
in the evening where we showed THE PASSION. What
a wonderful day it had been!
On
Easter Sunday I hid chocolate eggs all over our
house, and our kids had to find them. They had so much fun. I sure
hope they found them all as it's always up to 100 F (38 C) in our
house.
Jesus
has risen, He has risen indeed!
ITEMS
FOR MALI
Since it is both Florentin and I traveling, I'll be able to take
a good number of suitcases with me. If you have anything
we could take to Mali, please contact me. That is if you're
in Europe, Kansas City, Wichita, or Pasadena, which is the places
I'll be.
We
could do with:
- bottle caps
(for my kids to make cars with)
- underwear,
socks
- swim trunks
- pajamas
- any summer
clothes, primarily for boys
- fitted sheets,
twin-sized
- toys &
games that are not language-based
- old cell
phones
I'm sure more
things would come to mind if I thought about it longer. If you have
anything to give away, just check with me to see whether we could
need it.
Also if anyone
in Vienna has a big vehicle to transport
furniture with, please contact me.
And if anyone
in Vienna has a car to lend me for two
weeks (April 13-27), I'd be very thankful.
And Florentin
still needs a place to stay for 3 weeks when he
is released from hospital, about April 29th until May 22nd.
It needs to be in the area of Linz.
