FOOD PRICE EXPLOSION

A few years ago we saw a dramatic increase in rice prices. These past few weeks we have seen prices for all food increase dramatically. The millet price has been the same for many, many years, but now it went up by a third over night. Partly, the reason for these price hikes is the bad harvest this past summer that puts 2.5 million of Malians at high risk for malnutrition and starvation. The situation is so serious, that the market vendors even went on strike for two days to force the government to act - which meant we could not buy any food for two days.

For us, it means paying much more for food than ever before. We need many more monthly financial partners to help us make ends meet. Thanks for considering it.

SHOCKING BILL

A few months ago I was presented with a $6,000 bill (4.700€) that came out of the blue. I've contested it (to no avail) as I had not been told originally that I was to pay for the service, and later only that something would have to be paid, but never that it would be such a huge amount of money.

We have not been able to pay off any part of this bill so far. Please pray or give so we can put this behind us.

MY BOOK IN GERMAN

I have an avenue to get my book published in German, but it will take at least $9,000 or 7.000€. People have encouraged me to move forward with this, one of the reasons being that there are hardly any Christian books by Austrian authors out there.

QUICK NEWS

•        New Year's Eve - We had a great time celebrating with resident kids, street children, team members and visitors. Blog and pictures will be up shortly.      

•       Sick - Quite a few of us are sick right now (including me), probably due to the "very cold" weather in Mali this year (which would still be warm to most of you). Pray for health for everyone on our base please.

•        Wedding - Please keep Paul & Rokia's wedding this Saturday in your prayers. Pray also for us to make it to through the following week without Paul without problems.

•       Thief Among Us - The thefts continue; please keep praying for the thief to be caught.

•       Travel Itinerary Change - Instead of before Easter, I will be in Europe after Easter, i.e. end of April/beginning of May. Check my US schedule in Jan/Feb on the left, and in more detail on the website.

•        Volunteers - We need helpers! If you could come to Mali for a couple of months or years to be a blessing to our children, please contact me.
